Pop Star Faith: Justin Bieber Shares DMX Quote on Sobriety and God

Justin Bieber has certainly given fans something to talk about over the weekend. The singer shared a cryptic Instagram video over the weekend that appears to be an indirect message about drugs.

On Sunday, Bieber, who is reportedly preparing for a tour, posted a video of late rapper DMX in a tense discussion with spiritual life coach Iyanla Vanzant. The video was an episode from the 2013 show “Iyanla: Fix My Life,” with DMX giving a brutally honest answer to a question on sobriety.

In the video, Iyanla Vanzant asked the rapper, “Do you want to live your life as a clean man?” DMX, who often spoke of his deep spirituality and past hardships, had this to say: “No weed, no drinking, nothing? Why would I?” Vanzant then asked if he would be “a clear, pure vessel for the voice of God.” To this, DMX said, “I think I’m exactly where I need to be with God,” in a soft voice that suggested he meant business.

Justin Bieber posted the video without any caption or comment. The video has since been reposted from an Instagram account for a Los Angeles marijuana dispensary called “Gassy,” so the question is, is Bieber nodding or vetoing marijuana?

He Didn’t Comment, But Some Are Probing His Intentions

Bieber didn’t make any comments about the video, but fans and followers are speculating what he meant by posting it. Bieber has a long history of being vocal about his faith and his redemption through Christianity, so some are reading this Instagram video as a not-so-subtle jab about drugs, namely marijuana.

Bieber’s friendship with pastor Judah Smith from Churchome has been a solid influence in his life, and the Christian Bieber fanbase is also curious as to how the video fits into the singer’s image of a faith-driven family man.

The Instagram Story, however, did not have a caption that clarified his stance on using drugs. However, the post was not by itself. In the last year, Bieber has posted numerous pictures of himself with bongs in his hand or a room full of smoke. Many followers of Bieber have a deep concern for the singer’s health, especially since it was recently revealed he was hospitalized for anxiety, plus numerous other health problems over the years.

Marijuana Is Legal, But Is He? A Tarnished Image?

In California, where the pop star currently resides with his wife Hailey Bieber and his baby son Jack Bieber, the use of marijuana is legal for recreational purposes. However, despite all the fanfare about his life and habits, a representative for the singer denied he was using drugs this year.

In a February statement to TMZ, a representative for the Canada-born singer said: “The recurring narrative that Justin is using hard drugs is not true.” The spokesperson went on to say that Bieber is “in one of the best places in his life” and “is very much in the parenting zone and loving it, and is currently in the studio creating new music.”

In the same statement, the rep said that the previous 12 months had been a “very transformative” period for the 31-year-old artist. In this period, he reportedly cut off several long-time business partners and friends, which his rep explained as a necessary step for the singer’s well-being.

A Father, A Christian, And A Swag-ger

July also saw another significant milestone in Bieber’s career, with the surprise release of his seventh studio album, “Swag,” on July 11. Swag has gotten critical acclaim with its thought-provoking lyrics, a tribute to his wife and son, and fun beats, and his friendship with YouTube personality Druski, and comedic banter with Bieber.

Druski does “therapy sessions” with Bieber, which in real life are probably mock-therapy sessions for entertainment purposes. However, many of Bieber’s songs on Swag deal with his transformation and becoming a father and husband from the world’s former teenage idol.

The public nature of the album, along with his more recent Instagram video, has many fans wondering about Bieber’s image. Is he wresting back the reins on his narrative, or is he playfully avoiding the public view that he is a sober and religious family man?

Bieber: Will He Tour Again? Fans Hope So!

Fans are still trying to get to the bottom of the singer’s true message as to the meaning of the Instagram video, but another report of a possible Bieber tour has also raised the anticipation.

Fans are in high anticipation as it has also been reported that Bieber could be coming to Australia on a tour in the future. However, neither Bieber’s camp nor Frontier Touring has denied or confirmed dates.

Frontier Touring said to Rolling Stone that the agency had “no information” regarding possible Australian shows. Bieber’s last tour, Justice World Tour, was canceled in 2022 due to health problems. If he does tour, then he would be coming back to the world stage after an absence and a time of considerable personal development.
