Man Shot in Vehicle During ICE Operation in Marble Hill

A man was shot inside a vehicle during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in Marble Hill, Manhattan, on Thursday, according to officials. The shooting took place just after 4 p.m. in the Marble Hill section of the Bronx.

Incident Details and Law Enforcement Involvement

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the shooting involved federal law enforcement agents. The NYPD emphasized that its officers were not involved and were not present at the scene of the shooting. On social media, NYPD stated, “At around 4pm today, there was a shooting involving federal law enforcement agents in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx. The NYPD was not involved in the incident and was not on scene at the time of the shooting.”

The injured man was transported to a nearby hospital, where police say he is currently conscious and receiving medical attention.

Witness Accounts and Community Observations

Several witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots during the ICE operation. One resident said, “I only heard about four shots, but I thought it was a car backfiring. I thought, no, that's definitely gunshots, so I ran to my window and all of a sudden I heard cops running, not walking down the street, and followed shortly there after by more cops, and then more cops and ICE agents. Everybody was running. I think it's horrifying.”

Some witnesses told Eyewitness News they saw a child in the back of the car at the time of the shooting, though this detail has not been confirmed by officials.

Location and Operation Staging Area

City officials indicated that ICE had been using a nearby Target parking lot on 225th Street as a staging area for operations in the neighborhood. The circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear.

Official and Community Reaction

The ice shooting prompted a swift response from New York Governor Kathy Hochul. In a statement, Governor Hochul said, “I've been briefed on this afternoon's shooting involving federal law enforcement agents in the Bronx. We expect federal authorities to provide a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding this incident. New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why.”

The incident has also sparked a reaction from city immigration activists. Murad Awawdeh, president and CEO of the New York Immigration Coalition, stated, “ICE's violent tactics are a clear danger to all New Yorkers, as today's shooting in a residential neighborhood demonstrates. This incident is another reminder of the unchecked, rampant violence ICE has been spreading throughout our communities.”

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have yet to disclose what led to the federal law enforcement shooting in Marble Hill. The situation remains under investigation, with calls from officials for transparency and accountability. Community members continue to express concern regarding immigration enforcement operations and their impact on residential neighborhoods.
