Jurassic World Rebirth Returns to the Original Jurassic Park Site
The final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth has arrived, and with it, the latest in a string of red-band action scenes set to the iconic music of Michael Giacchino. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, 2014), Jurassic World Rebirth opens on July 2, 2025, giving fans something to look forward to all summer long over the Fourth of July holiday. Produced by Universal Pictures, the summer blockbuster will also be the series’ fourth installment (the franchise’s seventh film overall since the 1993 Steven Spielberg original).
Featuring returning faces such as Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, Rebirth will “reboot” the Jurassic World series while also re-visiting the first Jurassic Park research island, casting its characters into high-concept scientific espionage with the highest of stakes. Dino DNA holds the key to a scientific breakthrough, a “miracle drug,” and as in every other Jurassic movie before it, the scene is set for a battle of wills between man and dinosaur as they fight to gain control of a limited cache of the life-saving elixir.
Jurassic World Rebirth picks up five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. An inhospitable planet has sent most dinosaurs into ever-shrinking equatorial bands, including a tropical biosphere home to the three largest dinosaurs of land, sea, and sky, each of which possesses the code to the miracle drug. Enter Johansson’s character, Zora Bennett, the handler of a special mission team tasked with retrieving said code. Her work comes into direct conflict with a family’s joyride as an attack by one of the biosphere’s aquatic predators strands the three adults and their two children on a mysterious island that happens to be the former location of a “Jurassic Park” secret research lab.
The Cast
Jurassic World Rebirth will star Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, and Mahershala Ali as A.I., with returning Jurassic Park franchise veteran Rupert Friend as Martin Krebs. In addition to playing the shipwrecked family, the film will feature Jonathan Bailey as Henry Loomis, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado, Luna Blaise as Clara Delgado, David Iacano as Joey Delgado, and Audrina Miranda as Daniella Delgado. Also on the team is Bechir Sylvain. Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge also feature in undisclosed roles.
Five years after the events of JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION, the planet has become increasingly inhospitable to dinosaurs. Survivors of the prehistoric species are forced into ever-shrinking equatorial bands that have become their last refuges in the tropical biosphere, where the three largest dinosaurs on land, in the air, and the sea reside. The only remaining members of each species possess the genetic code to a miracle drug that could save lives.
Jurassic World Rebirth Trailer Overview
The full-length trailer, just over two minutes, repurposes most of the footage in the previous teaser released earlier this year. A glance at the other materials we’ve seen for Jurassic World Rebirth reveals that the first part of the trailer is almost exactly as it was presented in February. This decision reinforces the core elements of the movie and creates a crescendo of music to highlight some of the new action scenes not previously revealed.
A quiet lab sequence with a worker in hazmat gear sets the tone for a string of intense close-quarters combat between human and dinosaur. The lab worker gets locked in a cage with a ravenous T Rex, screaming to someone outside for help. It’s not enough. He’s dead before the credits roll. In keeping with classic Jurassic action, however, the trailer follows the quicksand of “research” work with the promise of high-stakes action, nail-biting suspense, and some seriously gnarly dinosaurs.
One scene, in particular, is new to this trailer (the biggest set piece of the film? We’ll see), in which thieves attempt to steal a nest of eggs laid by one of the largest known flying creatures on Earth, the Quetzalcoatlus northropi. A smaller version of these pterosaurs is shown briefly, but one character on screen describes the fully grown beast as a “flying carnivore, the size of an F-16.” A familiar face from the trailer for the previous Jurassic World Dominion (2022) also makes an appearance: the franchise’s most well-known dinosaur, the raptor. Other new characters get introduced, too, including one from the sea: a mosasaur.
Jurassic World Rebirth’s trailer also promises new characters and talent, most notably Johansson and Mahershala Ali, with whom we have seen almost none of the teamwork (save for a glimpse of Johansson explaining an injury, presumably received in the line of duty). The “rebirth” of the Jurassic World franchise, as both a reset of its movie continuity and a reboot of its theme park beginnings, looks to keep all the best elements of the original while also exploring new territory and potential threats. It does, of course, mean more dinosaurs on screen; it will be interesting to see how those new and old elements mix and match throughout the film.
Jurassic World Rebirth will be in theaters on July 2, 2025, when it will hopefully find its large window for the crowd-pleaser that it so clearly wants to be.
